Biography

David Ginsburg (1903, Daugavpils - 1941, near Tallinn). David graduated from the school and in 1921 he volunteered for the Cavalry Regiment of the Latvian Army, located in Daugavpils. The military bandmaster of this regiment was his father - Joseph Ginsburg, who taught David to play on the trumpet. David served in the army for 6 years, received a junior officer's rank of corporal and military specialty - trumpeter. In the spring of 1928 he moved to Riga - the musician's life was cheerful, but not rich. David played at weddings and funerals, at cafes and restaurants, in the 1930-s and early 1941 - at the Riga Circus Albert Salamonsky's orchestra in a good company of Jewish musicians. But the best work was for David in Kemeri - every summer in 1935-1940. Kemeri is an ancient resort on the seashore not far from Riga. In summer, vacationers came there, for them on the open stage played a symphony orchestra. The newspaper "Kemeri News" published a schedule of concerts, in the program - Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, Tchaikovsky ... David performed with the orchestra, often as a soloist. His solo on the trumpet was a success with the audience.

In 1932, David married Sarah Deborah Brachmann. In 1935 their son Gabriel was born. Gabriel Ginsburg became a famous petroleum geologist, doctor of geological science. He was the father of Vlada Rutkevich and Yuliya Vishnevskaya

In July 1941, David Ginsburg joined the troops of the Soviet army, died almost immediately - when retreating on the Estonian front in August 1941.
