John was born in Michigan in 1877. His parents were Fredrick Gintling and Sarah Jane Kepler. John married Jessie Monroe on 23 Dec 1899 in Coldwater, MI. They had a daughter, Maybell in 1912. John was a farmer. In his 1918 draft registration, he is described as being of medium height and build, with blue eyes and brown hair. It also notes that John had lost one eye. John's wife, Jessie died of tuberculosis in 1921. John never remarried. He passed away in 1960.
