Stay maker of Ashford.
Had between 4 and 7 children with Sarah Flint (c.1685-1767).
Hasted's History of the County of Kent published in the late 18th century and the obituary of George Gipps (1729-1800) in the Gentleman's Magazine both say that his father was John Gipps who married Sarah Flint and they had three sons and a daughter. This is said in almost all other references, which are probably quoting Gentleman's Magazine. However, Benjamin Francis Flint (1800-1869) in his Brief History Of The Flint Family, published posthumously, says Sarah Flint married Henry Gipps and they had seven children, including George (1729-1800) and Henry (1718-1769). Flint says he consulted parish registers. Online lists of the parish registers do not have a John Gipps, only a Henry Gipps, marrying Sarah Flint.
