Joseph Pierre Francois Girard was born about 1845 in Lyons, France to Jean Francois Girard and Antoinette Deville.
Joseph Americanized his name to "Peter". He also used the name Peter Frank. He married Mildred Elisabeth Owens on September 25, 1865 in Dallas County, Texas. The result of their union were five children.
He reportedly passed away about 1888.
Story is told by family members that Peter took livestock into town to sell. Later that day his horse returned home without him after selling his livestock. He nor the money he received was ever found. It is family lore and speculation that he was killed, robbed and tossed into the Trinity River.
