Charles was born on November 7, 1773 in Yamachiche, Maskinongé, Québec, Canada. His parents are Augustin Girardin and Marie-Geneviève Rivard.[1][2] He was baptized on November 7, 1773 at Ste-Anne d'Yamachiche, Maskinongé, Québec, Canada.[3]

He married Marie-Josèphte LeSieur on February 13, 1801 at Ste-Anne d'Yamachiche, Maskinongé, Quebec, Canada.[4] They had 9 children:
