Biography
John Girling was born in 1846 in Watton, Norfolk, England to Thomas Girling and Matilda (Maltwood) Girling. His birth was registered in Wayland, Norfolk in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Mattwood [Maltwood].[1]
In 1851 John Garling (age 4) lived at Watton Green in Watton with his father Thomas (39, Ag Lab), mother Matilda (28), and brother George (7, Scholar).[2]
John's mother passed away in 1856.
In 1861 John Girling (age 14, Errand Boy) lived at Watton Green in Watton with his father Thomas (52, Agricultural Labourer), brother George (17, Shoemaker), and aunt Mary Ann Maltwood (20, Housekeeper).[3]
