Biography

Charles Girouard was born about 1689 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, son of Jacques Girouard (abt. 1648–1703) and Marguerite Gautrot (abt. 1654–1727).[1]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Charles, aged 4, lived with his parents, Jacob [sic] Giroud [sic], aged 46, and Marguerite Goutrot [sic], aged 39, and his 10 siblings: Alexandre, aged 22, Pierre, aged 20, Jean, aged 17, Marie, aged 15, Francois, aged 13, Marguerite, aged 10, Claude, aged 9, Guillaume, aged 7, Denis, aged 5, and Germain, aged 2. The family owned 2 guns and lived on 22 arpents of cultivable land with 25 cattle, 30 sheep, and 15 pigs.[2]

Charles married twice.[3]

Charles (23) married first Anne Bastarache (19) (born in 1693 in Port-Royal; daughter of Jean (Bastarache) Bastarache dit Le Basque and Huguette Vincent) on 14 Nov 1713 in Annapolis Royal, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia.[4][5] Their known children were:

  1. Charles Girouard (1716–bef. 1763) .
  2. Marie Josèphe Girouard (1717–aft. 1763) .
  3. Joseph Girouard (1720–abt. 1804) .
  4. Anne Girouard (1722–1800) .
  5. Magdelaine Girouard (1723–bef. 1763) .
  6. Francois Girouard (1726–aft. 1763) .
  7. Bazile Girouard (1728–bef. 1758)
  8. Gregoire Girouard 1731-1734

Charles (54) married second Marie-Josephe Pitre (35) (born on 28 Dec 1708 in Port-Royal, widow of Charles Simon, daughter of François Pierre Pitre and Anne Prejean) on 16 Jun 1744 in Annapolis Royal, Acadie.Witnesses were Guillaume Girouard, François Girouard, Jean Prejean and Charles Prijean. There was a dispensation for 3-4 consanguinity.[6]

Biographie

"L'autre branche de la famille remonte à Charles Girouard, le neuvième fils de Jacques à François, qui est né vers 1689. Charles s'est marié deux fois : en premières noces, à Port-Royal, le 14 novembre 1713, à Anne Bastarache, fille de Jean Bastarache et d'Huguette Vincent, et en secondes noces, au même endroit, le 16 juin 1744, à Marie-Josèphe Pitre, fille de François Pitre et d'Anne Préjean, et veuve de Charles Simon dit Boucher"[7]
