James Girt was baptised on 24 March, 1737/38 at Saint Andrew's Church in Great Finborough, Suffolk[1]His parents were Jeremiah Girt (~1700 - ~1765) and Elizabeth Unknown (~1688 - ).

James married Mary Tillett (~1745 - ~1775) on October 10, 1758 by banns at St Mary the Virgin, Kettlebaston, Suffolk[2]. He signed the amrriage record with an X.

Their children were:

  1. Mary Girt (1759 - )
  2. Hester Girt (1762 - 1827)
  3. James Girt (1764 - 1827)
  4. Elizabeth Girt (1767 - 1840)
  5. John Girt (~1767 - 1852)
  6. Sarah Girt (1775 - 1775)
