Biography

National Flag of Wales
Caroline (Gittoes) Watkins was born in Wales.
Caroline (Gittoes) Watkins came free to the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

Caroline Gittoes was born at Colva in 1826 to John Gittos and Sarah Price[1]. Last name does not appear consistently through any of the records I find. Gittus, Gittoes, Gittos, Gettus.

Caroline married Tracy Watkins at Abergavenny in 1853[2], and they had two children before moving to Australia in 1863[3], and then three more daughters, before Tracy abandoned her. Caroline was left with four children, because Sarah died, and the Warrandyte Hotel, which she had to take care of until it could be passed to someone else.

She passed away in 1911[4], and was buried at Kew Cemetery with her son-in-law[5].
