Biography

Daniel Glading or Gladding was born in 1812 and baptised on 26 Jan 1812 at Ware, Hertfordshire, England. He was the son of William Glading and Mary Osborn.[1] Daniel's mother died when he was young and his father remarried. His family moved to Redruth, Cornwall about 1824 where his father worked as a Maltster for a Brewery.

Daniel Glading married Elizabeth Martin on 12 Oct 1832 at Redruth, Cornwall.[2] They had ten children: William Henry Glading (b. 1834), Elizabeth Ann Gladding (1835–1837), Elizabeth Ann Glading (b. 1837), Mary Glading (1839-1842), Daniel Glading (1841-1841), Daniel Glading (b. 1842), Mary Osborne Glading (b. 1844), Martha Glading (b. 1846), John Glading (b. 1849), Edward Glading (b. 1851).

In the 1841 census, Daniel Glading was age 30 living at Tolgus, Redruth, Cornwall with his wife Elizabeth Glading (25), son William Glading (8), daughters Elizabeth Glading (4), Mary Glading (2).[3]

In the 1851 census, Daniel Glading was age 40 living at Redruth, Cornwall with his wife Elizabeth Glading (39), sons William H Glading (17), Daniel Glading (9), John Glading (2), daughters Elizabeth Ann Glading (13), Mary O Glading (7), Martha Glading (5). Occupation: Malts Man.[4]

In the 1861 census, Daniel Glading was age 54 living at Tolgus Hill, Redruth, Cornwall with his wife Elizabeth Glading (50), sons Daniel Glading (19), John Glading (12), Edward Glading (10), daughters Mary Glading (18), Martha Glading (15). Occupation: Master At A ?.[5]

Daniel and his family emigrated to Australia in 1863. They sailed on the Spitfire from London on 24 Aug 1863.[6][7] The family group was:

Daniel died in 1884 at Lambton, New South Wales.[8]
