Biography

Pamela was born in July 1915 and was baptised on 19th August 1915 at St John the Baptist, Hillingdon. Pamela is the child of Edward Gladstone and Cecilia Stilwell. [1]

LIEUTENANT H. C. BROWN R.N. AND MISS GLADSTONE

The marriage between Lieutenant H. C. Brown, R.N., of the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, son of the late Engineer Captain Walter Brown, R.N., and of Mrs. Brown, of Farnham, Surrey, and Miss Pamela Katherine Gladstone, daughter of the late Captain E. O. Gladstone, R.N., and of Mrs. Gladstone, of Pennington, Lymington, Hampshire, took place yesterday at All Souls' Church, Langham-place.

Mr. J. E, Gladstone, her uncle gave away the bride, who wore a trained gown of white brocade, the front finely gauged from the halter neck to the low hip-line. Her family veil of Honiton lace was worn with a silver head-dress, surmounted by a white-velvet plait, terminating in a spray of orange blossom, and she carried a sheaf of lilies, lilies of the valley, and white heather.

Rosemary Anderson and Elizabeth Anderson, little cousins of the bride, carried her train. They wore frilled frocks of material similar to that of the bride's gown. and they carried posies of white flowers. The other attendants—Miss Anne Carden, Miss Elizabeth Marsh, Miss Katherine Leach, and Miss Elizabeth Russell—were in close-fitting gowns of deep coral-coloured velvet. widening out to full, stiffened hems. The gowns were faced with silver lamé, and the pleated, puffed sleeves were threaded with silver cords, terminating in long loops. They wore also velvet bandeaux, and they carried sheaves of mixed white flowers and green foliage. Lieutenant Nigel Bagshaw, R.N., was best man.

The Rev. Dr. C. W. C. Ingles, late Chaplain of the Fleet, and the Rev. N. Kent, Chaplain of the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, officiated.

The reception was held at the Langham Hotel. Those present, or who accepted invitations, included:

"Squirrel" Brown was killed in action during the Battle of Matapan in World War 2 while on HMS Gloucester (22 May 1941).

She married William Vicary in about 1945.

A marriage has been arranged and will shortly take place, between William Dallin Vicary (late The Buffs), son of Commander H. L. Vicary, D.S.C., R.D., R.N.R. (retd.) and Mrs. Vicary, of Stoney Lodge, Brockenhurst, and Pamela, widow of Commander (E) H.C. Brown, D.S.O., R.N., and daughter of the late Captain E.O. Gladstone, R.N., and Mrs. Gladstone.

VICARY. - On Dec. 12, 1960, suddenly at her homw, 132, Barnfield Wood Road, Beckenham, PAMELA KATHARINE, dearly beloved wife of William and mother if Michael and daughter of Cecil Gladstone. Service at Beckenham Crematorium, Monday, 19, at 2.30 p.m.
