Accidental Death Ruling Submitted
An inquest held Sunday into the death of Mrs. Naomi Mildred Glass Therrell resulted in a ruling that she died accidently Saturday in a fall into a concrete box culvert south of Espanola.
Justice of the Pease Isaac Archuleta of Santa Fe conducted the hearing in Santa Cruz. At about the same time as the inquest, Mrs. Therrell’s husband, John Ed Therrell, Sr., 52, was transferred from Espanola Hospital to St. Joseph’s in Albuquerque.
He suffered head and shoulder injuries when he fell into the same culvert.
The inquest findings were based largely on the autopsy report, which showed that Mrs. Therrell suffered brain damage as a result of a fractured skull caused by violent contact with a blunt surface. The pathologist also found scratches and bruises on an arm, believed suffered in the fall.
The freak accident occurred about 3 a.m. Saturday following a party at the home of Mrs. Mary Lou Adams at San Pedro, also attended by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Long of Santa Fe. Mr. and Mrs. Therrell had argued, the witnesses reported, and Mrs. Therrell had attempted to leave the car driven by her husband, as the live were en-route to Santa Fe.
The witnesses said Therrell stopped the car and that he and his wife walked up U. S. 51 in the darkness. When they did not return, the Longs and Mrs. Adams started searching for the couple and found them at the bottom of the culvert about daylight. They had apparently slipped down the steep roadside embankment and fallen. Mrs. Therrell was dead and her husband unconscious.
An ambulance from a Waco funeral home arrived for Mrs. Therrell’s body early Monday. Burial will be held in Waco Memorial Cemetery.
