Family tradition stated Rebecca was from Glasgow and Jewish.[1].
Rebecca was born about 1857.
28 February 1874 arrived aboard the Carnatic from London to Otago, New Zealand with her older sister Jane[2]
Married in a Presbyterian service to William Whitnall at his mother's house, then living with "Canterbury Jack" John Pearson. This marriage certificate provides the name of her parents and her birthplace of Glasgow, Scotland[3] .
The married couple moved to Sydney, NSW, where other miner families, in particular, 'the Wiggins', had moved on from the Otago goldfields. There they transferred their skills with gold mining sluices and obtained employment with fire brigades[4].
Rebecca passed away in 1894. [5]
