Samuel, born about 1800 in Ireland, emigrated to Upper Canada (now Ontario) when he was nineteen. He married Eliza Owrey in 1826 and they settled on a farm in Westminster Township. Their sons, William and David, were born there. In 1831 the family moved to the village of London (known as the Forks), where Samuel established a grain and flour business. He died in 1877.[1]
