Obituary[3]
Marguerite Amelia Glasscock Welde was born June 30, 1924, in Duke, Okla., and died April 17, 2007 in Springfield, Mo., after a valiant fight with cancer. Daughter of Florence Huff and Virgil Glasscock, Marguerite met her husband Jack Welde, during World War II while he was stationed in Reno, Nevada. They wed March 31, 1944. The family returned to Jack's home in Pierce City following the war. The Weldes moved to Springfield following the May 2003, tornado. While bringing up her family, Marguerite worked for Jumping Jack Shoes in Monett. Upon retirement, she devoted herself full time to the simple pleasures at which she excelled. Marguerite was a voracious reader and talented seamstress whose artistry and generosity were evident in the beautiful samplers she made for friends and family. Marguerite enjoyed cooking for her family and having everyone gathered around the table. She never skimped on sugar, butter, or affection. Marguerite loved all animals, had an affinity for nature, grew flowers in abundance, and was in the Audubon Society. Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jack, in November 2006, as well as her sister, Betty; brother, Frank; brother, Jack; and daughter-in-law, Sharon. Marguerite is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirlee and Roy Nichols, and son, Bob Welde. She is also survived by two granddaughters, and their husbands: Megan and Jeff Rowe and Melinda and Lester Baker. Great-granddaughter, Madyson Welde; step great-grandchildren, Ashli and Ashton Baker; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Doris Glasscock; and brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Dolly Glasscock, also mourn her passing.
