Southern Cross of Honor William Thornton Glassell was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and in the American Civil War, an Officer of the CSS David[1] and Commander of the CSS Fredericksburg in the Confederate States Navy.[2] After the Civil War, he moved to Los Angeles, California and surveyed the city of Orange for his brother Andrew.[3]

William passed away in 1876. Final resting place in Angelus Rosedale Cemetery, Los Angeles, California.[4]
