Biography

Noëla Beatrice Myer Ewart Glasson was born in 1894 at Woollahra, New South Wales (Australia). [1] She was the only child of Australian soprano and music composer May Summerbelle and Bertie Glasson, who was convicted of murder and executed by hanging prior to Noëla's birth. Her mother married again in 1901 and Noëla took her step-father's name, Senior. After moving to Botany, in Sydney's southern suburbs, twin half-brothers were born in 1902. However, step-father deserted his family shortly afterward and Noëla's mother became a single mum one again.

As Noëla Senior, she married 21 year-old budding poet, Kenneth Slessor, on 18th August 1922 at Ashfield, New South Wales. [2] They had a son, Paul.

Aged 51 years, Noëla died of cancer on 22nd October 1945 at Sydney. [3] She was survived by her husband, mother and brothers.
