Biography

He was born on 05 Dec 1761 in Suffield, Hartford County, Connecticut and was the son of Hannah (Kent) and Ephraim Gleason (1733–1819).

In November 1776 he served alongside his father, Ephraim Gleason, during the American Revolutionary War.

He served again, with the 5th Connecticut Regiment, from 01 July 1780 to 08 Dec 1780 and was at Camp Ramapo in Morristown, New Jersey, in the Connecticut Huts of Jockey Hollow.

Luther Gleason married in January 1781 in Litchfield, Connecticut to Mary Knap(p). [1]

He went on to become a preacher, receiving his ordination in 1789/90. He first served the church at Stillwater, New York, USA.

In 1798 he became the pastor of two churches in Long Island, New York, USA - a Presbyterian church in Smithtown and a church in Babylon.

In 1806 Luther left Long Island and returned to Connecticut, USA where he continued as a pastor. [2]

About 1810 the family relocated to Plymouth, Chenango County, New York where he remained as a farmer until his death.

He died on 13 May 1819 and was buried at Plymouth Northside Presbyterian Cemetery in Plymouth, Chenango County, New York, USA. [3]

On 19 July 1819 his estate was in the probate court of Chenango County, New York, USA. [4]
