Biography
John was born in 1805. He was the son of Richard Gledhill and Martha Crowther. "June 9th. John son of Richard & Martha Gledhill of Birstall"
He married Alice Senior in Tong in 1828. "John Gledhill of this parish, weaver and Alice Senior of this parish, spinster were married in his church by banns this 1st day of September 1828..."
In 1841 he and Alice were living at Banks Hill, Morley with children Elizabeth, Martha, David, Richard, Abraham & Alice. He was a clothier.
Following the death of Alice in 1849 Richard married Hannah Senior in Holbeck in 1852. "April 25th. John Gledhill, age 46, widower, clothier of Holbeck. Father: Richard Gledhill, clothier...and...Hannah Senior, age 39, spinster of Holbeck. Father: David Senior, clothier..."
In 1861 Richard & Hannah were living at Banks Hill, Morley with children Ann & Benjamin. He was a woollen weaver.
He passed away in 1877. "John Gledhill of Morley, buried Dec. 29, age 72 years"
