Biography

Edward Gleeson was born in Victoria in 1850. Parents Bryan Gleeson and Mary Callaghan. (information from Marriage certificate).

Edward married Mary Ann Leydin in Victoria in 1877/ The marriage certificate states he is 23 when he married (a year younger than his wife) his rank was Policeman, and his parents were Bryan Gleeson (a Gentleman) and Mary Callaghan. His place of birth was Sandhurst, Victoria. Marriage certificate does not contain the middle name of Joseph, and this would indicate that he didn't have a middle name as he was literate. ^[1]

Research Notes

So far unable to find the death or birth. Bryan Gleeson (his father) appears to have only one child registered - Bridget in the Victoria BDM. This may be due to colonisation? Sandhurst (the place of Edwards birth is now known as the town of Bendigo). Problems with identifying Lena Gleeson, no birth records, death or marriage records, although she is recorded on the Electoral roles. Speculated that she may have married one of the sons (not been able to find hte marriage. found military documents (WWI) for her son, William Alfred referring to her as Mrs Lena Gleeson. found other information suggesting she travelled overseas in about 1916, (on Ancestry -a voyage aged 31 to the US: Name Lena Gleeson Gender Female Age 31 Birth Date 1885 Departure Date 31/05/1916 (31 May 1916) Port of Departure England Liverpool Destination Port New York USA Ship Name Finland Shipping Line American Line Master J B Hill
