Biography

John Peter Glenn was born on 01 Sep 1793 in Pendleton District, Anderson, South Carolina, USA as the first child of John Porter Glenn and Jane Burris.[1][2] He had seven siblings, namely: Elizabeth, Samuel P., Elizabeth Jane, Thomas Morrow, Sarah "Sally", Isaac Y., and Hugh J.. He died on 17 Sep 1868 in Pleasantville, Marion, Iowa, USA.[1][3][2] When he was 24, he married Nancy Elizabeth Vinson on 18 Feb 1818 in Adair, Kentucky, USA.[4][1]
John Peter Glenn lived in Pleasant Grove, Marion, Iowa, USA in 1856.[5] He was counted in the 1860 census in Pleasant Grove, Marion, Iowa, USA and remained there until his death.[6][7] He was buried in Pleasantville, Marion, Iowa, USA (Pleasantville Cemetery, Row 7, North 1/2, East Section (next to wife)).[8][3][2]

  4. Jesse Vinson Glenn was born on 03 May 1825. Jesse Vinson died on 05 Sep 1902.
  5. William Morrow Glenn was born in 1828 in Waynesville, De Witt, Illinois, USA. William Morrow died in 1897 in Pleasantville, Marion County, Iowa, USA.

John P. Glenn was born in Pendleton county, NC, September 1, 1793; moved from thence to Jackson County, TN (formed in 1801 from Smith County and is along northern border with KY. Outline expanded in 1803, only to shrink in 1806, it shrank again in 1842, expanded in 1844, shrank in 1854, and finally Clay County was taken out of the northern part of the county in 1870 to reach it present outline ), thence to Crawford county, IN., thence to Sangamon county, IL, from thence to Jefferson county, IA, in '38, and from thence to this county in the spring of 1845, and settled in Polk Twsp., near Eagle Rock, where he remained one season, and raised a crop on a claim belong to F. M. Clifton. In the spring following he moved to and made a claim on what is now section 27, Pleasant Grove, where he remained till the day of his death, September 16, 1868, aged 75 years and 17 days. Mrs. Glenn survived him 15 months, and died December 5, 1869, aged 75 years and 25 days.
Mr. Glenn was for many years a minister of the gospel, of the Christian denomination; and in connection with Isaac Metcalf, an elder and local preacher of the same order, organized societies in various parts of the township in '48. He also preached and organized churches in Warren and Polk counties, at an early date. James Gill also organized churches of the same order, in the township, in '48-9. Wm. Knite, a brother-in-law to Samuel Tibbett, a preacher of the M. E. Church, preached at Mr. T.'s, and organized a church there at an early date. The first building erected for religious services, was in Pleasantville, in '52, under the pastoral charge of James Woods. The building now belongs to the Methodists.[7]
