Russell Register, 09-4-1896; Seale, Alabama, page 3, published weekly by Benton & Tucker.

"GOOD WOMAN GONE.
Mrs. A. E. Screws, After a Short Illness, Passes Away.
Again it becomes our painful duty to chronicle the death of one of our most beloved ladies. On Thursday of last week, at 12:30 o'clock p.m., the gentle spirit of Mrs. Ade'line [sic] E. Screws quitted its frail tenement of clay and winged its flight to the World of Light and now sweetly rests on the bosom of the Master. Mrs. Screws was on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Borom, at Boromville, when the end came. She left Seale just two weeks previous to her death, and was taken sick on the night of he arrival at her sister's home. All that tender care and loving hands could do for the sick lady was done, but to no avail, so far as restoring her to health, and at the hour mentioned she quietly, peacefully, sweetly feel asleep in Jesus.
"Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep.
From which none ever wake to weep;
A calm and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes."
Mrs. Screws was born in South Carolina in 1820, being about 76 years of age at the time of her demise. She removed to Glennville when a child, with her father the late Rev. Jas. E. Glenn (founder of Glennville) and has resided in Russell county ever since. She was the wife of Mr. Henry Screws, who preceded [sic] her to the grave many years. She was the mother of Mrs. H. B. Ferrell and Miss Nellie A. Screws, of Seale, and Mr. Jas. C. Screws, of Phenix City; and a sister of Capt. A. S. Glenn, of Seale, Rev. J. W. Glenn, of Hurtsboro, and Mrs. Borom, of Boromville. The deceased lady was a consecrated and devout member of the Methodist church for many years.
Mrs. Screws was a good woman – one, of whom it can be truthfully said,
"None knew her but to love her,
None named her but to praise,"
and those who knew her best loved and praised her most. But she has gone from among us, and the scenes that once knew her will know her no more forever. Her departure has caused the heavy hand of grief to be laid upon the hearts of many. Would that we might say something that would give comfort to the bereaved ones, but words are powerless to assuage the grief of those who have lost those who are dearest to them. The Lord, and the Lord only, is able to heal the brokenhearted, and may He in His great mercy visit them and comfort and strengthen them in this dark and trying hour.
The burial took place here Friday morning at 11 o'clock. Rev. J. W. Solomon conducted the services. A large number of people followed the deceased lady to her final resting place."
