Descendants of Martha Alice Barnes report the family tradition that the J stands for Jameson AKA Jemerson. Excerpt from correspondence, there is belief "she was descended from Martha Gaines Jameson (Jameson is "misspelled" here as "Jemerson" only because that's how it was spelled in the William M. Bradley family Bible). Martha Gaines Jameson is connected to the Meriwether family,

Potential, yet unproven, connections:

Martha Jameson (Meriwether) Bradley

Charlotte (Meriwether) Glenn

Open questions counter to the above with potential father Thomas Glenn:

After scouring it, reference to a Martha Bradley could not be found.

Why might she not have been in the will drawn in 1838, death about 1843 and final settlement in 1854:

Was she deceased when will was drawn...no

Was she married and out of houehold...not married until 1849, and only about 12 when the will was written

Had she been taken care of earlier at time of marriage etc., ...no, see above

Could she have been distributed to under another name...no all legates appear to be accounted for.
