Biography

Alexander was born in 1792 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Alexander Glenn remained in Lincoln County NC when his parents Robert and Elizabeth Glenn went to White County TN in 1806. Wayne Glenn of Nixa MO had the following on Alexander Glenn: He was likely considered old enough to help his brother John on the farm and had friends in Lincoln Co. he did not want to leave. He married Oct 10, 1815 Lincoln Co NC Bond in the NC State Archives Fanny Grigg-bondsman:John Glenn(his brother) & James T. Alexander^[1] In 1819 bought 78 acres Rutherford Co NC Benjamin Beaver; He was still in Lincoln Co at that time. 1822- He obtained land in Rutherford Co NC from Benjamin Weaver 1827 He bought 15 acres from Benjamin Willis in Rutherford Co NC 1828 He was in Bond County, Illinois - History of Bond and Montgomery Counties Illinois 1881 Zion Precinctp.163 and Land records. 1830 He was in Bond County Illinois -Bond County, Illinois Census. Also in 1840. He was a a Justice of the Peace.He was a member of the M.E. Church there. "Alex Glenn came from North Carolina about 1828, and located on Sect 17. He was, for many years, a Justice of the Peace, appointed by common consent, to settle the grievances of the settlers of this region. Thomas Cline came with Glenn and settled in Section 30. His widow at present resides in the village of Newport. William Hunter settled near the crossroads in 1820. He was the first Methodist Minister in this section of the country; and was a very popular and good man, and very highly respected. " Section 17-Zion.Also Sect 18,Sect19 His son William Moore Glenn built his coffin. He lived on Sect.24 which was adj his father's land and was executor to father's estate with his brother Robert. Alexander may be buried in Hastings Cemetery which has many old unmarked graves under the ground and this Cemetery has other family members as it lies in Section 17 which was where his original land grant was. However most of the graves are now sunk into the ground and only a few been brought back up by the historical society. When I was there it was extremely overgrown and I got bit by a sick tic and got Lymes disease. It is country mostly and was not taken care of well. You could feel the headstones still underground under your feet.. Mar 1839 see letter of James Glenn his brother to family in NC and TN... I have a copy of this letter I received from Wayne Glenn of Nixa MO. Alexander and his family contracted one of the diseases that hit the area in that time. One was Typhoid Fever and there were others too. They only had Quinine to treat them with..Alexander's probate record shows he, his daughter Martha and his son John were treated by a doctor and received Quinine. Alexander paid the medical bills for son John D. although he was married. It is not clear if he was in their home or in Missouri.Alexander and his son John D. GLenn died. He passed away in Bond County 1845. From the Probate records of Bond County IL

In researching his death at a relatively early age I found he and one son died being treated by quinine. The Historical Genealogical Society told me he and his son John likely died of Typhoid Fever which was in the area at that time. The bills for his treatment by the doctor and the treatment of his son John as well as his daughter Martha Elam Glenn Grigg were listed in his probate records in Bond County, Illinois
