Biography

Ireland Native
Mary (Glennon) Carabini was born in Ireland.

Mary was born on 11 December 1883 at the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. She is the daughter of Peter Glennon (a labourer) and Eliza King.[1] The family were living at 4 Cherry Lane at the time of Mary's birth. She was baptised in St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin, on 21 December 1883. [2]

Mary's father died in 1893, and in 1901, Mary was living with her mother and two brothers and a niece at Blessington Place. [3] There was no occupation listed for Mary, although she is 17 years old at this time.

Mary married James Cherubini on 3rd May 1910 at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Marlborough Street. [4]

In 1911, Mary is living with her husband and baby daughter Josephine, and her husband's three children from his first marriage, at 27 Bolton Street, Dublin. [5]

Mary died on 3rd September 1961 at her home, 113 Upr Dorset Street. [6] Mary's age was given as 77 years at her death. The cause of her death was carcinoma of the breast, suffered for ten months. The death was recorded by her daughter Elizabeth.

Note: The surname "Cherubini" is rare in Dublin in the 19th century, and it appears that the name gradually became corrupted or changed in subsequent generations. Mary's husband James seemed to favour the spelling "Carabini", although "Carabine" is found on some records. The variation in spelling probably occurred because of an effort to spell phonetically an unusual name in Ireland.
