Biography

John was born in 1763. He was the son of Alexander Glenny and Deborah Harrison. He passed away in 1831 and was buried 23rd June at St Mary's Churchyard Wandsworth, Battersea. (FInd a Grave-no photo.).

Johns father is recorded as William on parish registers for his christening. His mother is Deborah.

'Glenny Family in Barking by Tony Clifford 2005 refers to a footnote from the first Frogley Book: The eldest child, John, (of Alexander and Deborah) started farming in Battersea.

England Essex Parish Registers record the marriage of John to Hannah MOUSLEY on 9th August 1789 and witnessed by Robert & Mary Edmonds. Married St Margarets Church Barking Essex.

Glenny Family Tree from Research by Kenneth Glenny (1900-1971) records John and Hannah with 4 sons & 2 daughters. IMPORTANT: Elizabeth Glenny, the sister of John Glenny, left a Will dated 1828, and readily available in the National Archives: Elizabeth had left funds for her nieces and nephews, 6 children of John and 9 children of Joseph. John's children are recorded as William, George, Robert MOUSLEY, Alexander Hannah wife of William Wilson, and Mary.

Yet another Will in 1856 of Mary Glenny, spinster, also mentions her nieces and nephews, children of her late brother John: Mary Walker, widow of the late William Walker. Also Hannah Heasler (Hannah Wilson nee Glenny, married again in 1835). Also William and Robert Mousley and Alexander. George Glenny is in Russia.

England Births & Christenings, 1538-1975 have John & Hannah's children as:

1. JOSEPH born 21st July 1802 and christened 15th August 1802 Battersea London England and ALEXANDER born 3rd November 1803 and christened 8th January 1804, St Margaret Battersea.

Mary A Is 51 and Mary, daughter 22 born Hertf., and William, son, aged 14, born Hertf. ALEXANDER may have died before 1858 as we have a Mary Ann Glenny(daughter) marrying Robert Henry Elms on 27th June 1858, Lambeth Surrey. Her father is Alexander Glenny dec'd. Robert is a Barman and his father is a licensed victualler. Ages in 1861 and 1871 Census Records are consistent, with Mary Ann having been born in Buckenden, Hert.

3.The eldest child was GEORGE, born 1795. He died in New Zealand 21st July,1875 (Find a Grave). Cemetery inscriptions say born Battersea England. Died aged 80. His Aunt, Mary Glenny, died 1856 and writes in her Will that George is in Russia.

Another son ROBERT MOUSLEY GLENNY, born Battersea Surrey 1799 (from Census Records) and married to Maria Strutt, (born 30th Sept 1804 Barking Essex), also emigrated with his young family, to NZ at the same time as George. Robert died 4th March 1887 and is buried at Tarradale Napier City Hawkes Bay New Zealand. Aged 88. Inscription says born 17th March 1799. 1851 Census England records he lived at Little Ilford Essex with wife Maria and children.

Robert Mousley also recorded in his aunt, Mary Glenny's Will.

5. Daughter, Hannah, married William Wilson 24th April 1815 at St Leonard's, Shoreditch London (England Middlesex Parish Registers). Hannah and William Wilson were the parents of George Glenny Wilson christened 1st October 1826 Ware Hertfordshire. Hannah Wilson later married William Heasler on 5th February 1835 at Great Amwell Hertfordshire. Hannah died 26th Jan 1856 at Hertfordshire, aged 62 at New Rd Ware. The second wife of Mr W. Haisler. (Herts Guardian Agric. Journal. 29th Jan 1856.)

6. Mary. married William Walker. Entry in Will of her aunt, Miss Mary Glenny who died 1856, leaves a legacy to her niece Mary Walker, the widow of the late William Walker, daughter of my late brother. I am guessing that this marriage to William Walker was probably her 2nd marriage.
