Biography

Francis was born in 1810. He was the son of William Glenny and Molly How. He passed away in 1860.

There are a few family trees around with different scenarios of Francis and his family. Family records handed to me only show Francis, of Chadwell Heath married to Mary Ann and with only a son and daughter. (This would be understandable if mapping bloodlines as Sarah and her children are not of "Glenny" blood, however there appears to be 2 daughters to Sarah & Francis 1835-1839).

My beliefs are as follows:

Francis may have been married twice... 1st marriage to SARAH JOSE, a widow, married Francis Glenny 22nd December 1835 Leyton St Mary the Virgin. (Results of a Free BDM Search).

A Sarah Jose and her first husband Charles, had 3 children: Philip Charles Jose christened 19-3- 1826, Lucy Fanny Jose christened 4-5-1828 and possibly William Joses 18-8-1830. All in Essex.

1841 Census Dagenham Essex Chadwell Heath. Institution: Francis is 25. Sarah is 30. Charles Jose - 14, Fanny Jose - 12, Sarah Glenny is 4, and Harriet Glenny is 2.

England Essex Parish Registers record the christenings of SARAH GLENNEY 8th June 1837 born 15th May 1837 Chadwick Heath. Francis is a Farmer. HARRIET christened 28th November 1838. Parents to both children are Francis and Sarah.

A Sarah Glenny died in the last quarter 1841, Romford Essex. (Francis' wife?).

England & Wales Marriage Registrations record the marriage of Francis Glenny to MARY ANN WINMILL in the 4th Quarter of 1842.

England & Wales Birth Registrations: MARY ANNE 1st Qtr 1844 Romford and FRANCIS 1st Qtr 1845 Romford.

1851 Census Dagenham Essex Romford. The Head is Francis Glenny born Barking Essex, aged 40. farmer of 90 acres employing 26 labourers. Mary Ann his wife is 46, born Spitalfields Middlesex. Children listed are Sarah aged 13 born Dagenham Essex, Mary Ann aged 7 born Middlesex, and Francis aged 6 born Barking.

1861 Census Dagenham Essex England Romford. Chadwell Heath. Mary Ann 55, born Spitalfields Essex is a WIDOW. Farmer of 104 acres. With her are her daughter Mary aged 17 and Francis, her son, aged 16. Both born Dagenham Essex. A nephew, Alfred Hinright Knight, 22 born Wandsworth Surrey, is also listed.

Probate Records for Francis Glenny record his death as 7th July 1860. Probate granted 30th July 1860. Beneficiaries; Alfred Reeve((husband of Francis' sister Ann?), William Gooding Coleman and Mary Ann Glenny.

Mary Ann Glenny died 17th October 1865 and Probate granted 25th January 1866 records the same two male beneficiaries.

British History UK Churches: 1844 Francis Glenny built a Meeting House and school for Plymouth Brethren at Chadwell Heath. Used until 1928 until a new building opened in Wangey Road. original meeting house is a yellow brick building now (1962) used as a warehouse. At the end of Chapel Lane 100 yards east of Station Road, the yard in front of the building was formerly a burial ground.
