Madelyn Townsend PATTEN – Madelyn Townsend, 83, passed away July 18 in Bangor with her family by her side. She was born October 19, 1930 in Houlton, the daughter of Wilbur and Geneva (Hatt) Glidden. Madelyn graduated from Patten Academy and attended Husson College.
In 1949 she was the Patten representative of Potato Blosson Festival. She attended Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church for many years. As the mother of 5, she was the ultimate house wife, keeping her home a welcoming place for all the children of the neighborhood. She was an integral part in her husband’s career as a farmer. She did everything from running for parts, driving tractors and providing coffee and goodies during break time.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Thurston Townsend of Patten; 5 children, of Augusta; sister-in-law, of Caribou; nieces and nephews and many close friends that are too numerous to list.
She was predeceased by her parents and two grandsons, Kenton Hanscom of Fairbanks, AK and Tanner Morse of Stacyville. There will be a celebration of Madelyn’s life on July 20, Sunday at 1:00 pm in the Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church in Patten with a social gathering to follow.
