Biography

Milly's birth and death dates are estimates.

Milly's husband Eli Mitchell was born about 1780 in South Carolina. He married Milly Glidewell. On the 1850 Tennessee Census, Eli is listed as 70 years old with a South Carolina birthplace. He is enumerated in the household of his son-in-law, Benjamin F. McCants, in Bedford County. He likely died between 1850 and 1860 as he has yet to be located on any 1860 census reports. Apparently Eli drank a bit too much at times with a report from family records that "He was a good father until intoxicated, then the children had to leave home." His wife, Milly died when their children were still quite young and was buried between Hannah's Gap Baptist church and the Presbyterian church in Bedford County, Tennessee in an unmarked grave.

Eli and Milly had four children:

1. Martha (Patsy) Mitchell who was born around 1819.

2. Isabella E. (Ibby) Mitchell, born 10 Mar 1822 in Tennessee. She married Andrew Jackson King 28 Feb 1839 in Bedford County, Tennessee. He died in July 1871. Isabella died 19 October 1906.

"Ibby was a blond with white satiny skin. She married young to get away from home. When her first child entered school, she learned to read with the child. Later, she read any good book available, and read her Bible daily. She is described as very intelligent, a faithful church member and a good cook. She quilted, knitted, was highly respected in the community and dearly loved by her children and grandchildren. She always had flower beds by her walk-through vegetable garden, an herb garden for medication and seasoning, shrubs and an orchard. Ibby Mitchell King had at least one daughter, Eliza, who married a Mr. Delk. Eliza had at least one daughter, Isabella (Ibby) who married a Mr. Scott. Eliza died in July 1875. From Ibby Delk Scott, granddaughter of Ibby Mitchell King."

3. Evaline Mitchell, was born in Tennessee. She married Nathan Perry 14 Oct 1838 in Bedford County, Tennessee. Evaline worked at a laundry in Lewisburg, Tennessee prior to her marriage. Evaline and Nathan had at least one child (Mary Ann m. A.C. Freeman 3 Sep 1856 in Bedford County).

4. Samuel Mitchell was born in Tennessee. He lived at Flat Creek, Bedford, Tennessee. He farmed and his wife "kept the Toll Gate." He had at least one daughter, Hattie, who lived in Shelbyville, and at least one son, Henry.
