Biography

Franklin was born in 1870. In 1888 there was a great Blizzard with hurricane-force winds on March 11. That must have been cold! Frank was living in Mansfield and working as a brakeman. Just a few weeks later, on April 14, 1888, “Abbie” and Frank were married. They were only 18 years old. "Abbie” and Frank had 4 children: Ethel Mae, Charles Everett (1891), Arthur, and Waldo According to the 1900 census Abbie and Frank had settled in Mansfield. Both Abbie and Frank could read and write. Only three of her children were living. It is assumed that their daughter Ethel had died. It indicates that Frank’s father was born in Newfoundland, although it has been accepted that he was born in New Hampshire, just like his mother. Frank was a yard master for the railroad. Their home was mortgaged. The Mansfield City Directories for 1890 and 1891 have Frank living on Angell St. By the directories of 1898, 1900, 1903, 1906, 1909, 1918 and 1926 Frank was a yard master living on Main St. In 1920, they were living on North Main Street in Mansfield, only Arthur is living at home with Abbie and Frank. Both Frank and Arthur worked for the railroad., Frank still as a Yard master and Arthur as a brakeman. He passed away in 1929.
