Obituary

DECATUR DAILY REPUBLICAN 2/11/1887

The death of Milburn Glore,who was in the 80th year of his age, occurred at the family residence on W.Prairie street last night at 9 oclock. Though far advanced in years the genial old gentlemen, who has lived among us since 1855, was able to be up and about until Wednesday last when in Order to be relieved of the cause of intense suffering, he bravely submitted to a delicate and dangerous surgical operation. He endured it with much fortitude and came out of it reasonably well, with hopeful indications that he would survive,but yesterday a change for the worse became apparent and he passed away at the hour stated. The deceased during his long residence here has witnessed many changes. Here many of his children were born and nearly all of them were present at the Golden Wedding celebration held on January 22,1879. Before the weight of years came upon him, Mr. Glore was engaged in the brick making business, his yard lying south of the ball park. He also conducted a grocery store on Merchant street in an old frame building near the present site of the Ullrich block. He also handled wood. Before 1860 he served the city well as street commissioner. The declining years of his life have been spent in ease and comfort, the loving care of his wife and devoted children. He was a great lover of piscatorial pleasure and was counted among the most successful anglers of this locality. Mr. Glore was a noble old gentleman, who was held in high esteem by all of his acquaintances.

Milburn Glore was born in Boone county, Ky, August 18th,1807, Sallie Clark, his widow was born in Jefferson county,Ky October 28th 1810. They emigrated to this city in the year of 1855. Eleven children were given to them one of whom died an infant, James H. Glore died on his farm near this city Feb. 27th of last year. The surviving children are Norbin S. Glore of New York, Zerelda wife of W. E. Bingham of this city, W. Wash Glore of Chicago, W. Scott Glore of Louisville, Ky, Amy Frances, wife of Andrew C. Hill of this city, Alonzo M. Glore of St. Louis, Alice G. widow of the late Richard L. Evans of this city and for years our city librarian, Mrs. Melissa Moore of this city, Miss Ella Glore, residing at the family home on Prairie Street of this city.

The funeral will take place from the Christian church at 2 oclock Saturday afternoon. The service will be conducted by Rev. John W. Tyler, friend of the family and interment will be Greenwood cemetery.
