Biography

Richard Glossop was the son of William and Mary Glossop born in Crich Derbyshire.[1]

In the 1841 census he is living in Derbyshire [2] with his parents and four siblings.

In 1845 Richard Glossop married Matilda Elliot in Cannock Staffordshire [3]

In 1854 Richard Glossop and his wife Matilda emigrated to Australia as assisted immigrants on the ship the Indian Ocean they arrived in October. Their ages were said to be 35 and 30. No children arrived with them presumably they died before they left England.[4]

Richard Glossop was a Stonemason . They at first traveled to Belfast now called Port Fairy then settled in Hamilton Victoria and then later moved a few miles west to Coleraine where they were publicans.

Richard died suddenly in 1867 of a ruptured pulmonary artery. He was 47 years old.[5] His Estate was not settled until 1897. His widow Matilda did not know that it was required until after she married her second husband. There appears to have been a family dispute over the Estate involving Matilda’s husband. Eventually Richard’s son Richard Glossop was appointed Executor. It was not until 1902 that the details were finally resolved.
