David Cole writes: William Goacher was born on 31 JUL 1825 in Coombes, , Sussex, Eng.
On Aug 22, 1847, he married his first wife, Jane Martha Mercer. They had 5 children
He met his second wife, Sarah Jane Goulton, when he was 56 years old. They married about 1879 and she bore him 7 children.
In 1992, Jessie Goatcher, his daughter, in her autobiography, wrote:
However, when she [Sarah Jane Goulton] was twenty-six she met, through her job I suppose, my father, who was a widower of fifty-six with a grown-up family. He was a master baker and at the time of their marriage was fairly prosperous, with a shop in Worthing [West Sussex] and one in Eastbourne [East Sussex, both near Brighton], but at the time I was born he was ill and the shops had been sold and my mother used to go and cook special dinners or luncheons. ... He died [, in 1895,] when I was 3 years and 9 months old, and my mother was in bed with a new baby brother. He was just 2 days old when my father died. ...
One of his residences was at No. 3 Railway Terr. in Eastbourne, , Sussex, Eng. I suppose that he was buried near Brighton or Coombes in Sussex.
Murray Hibbard writes: Changed his surname from Goacher to Goatcher, I believe due to financial troubles
