Oliver D. Goad was born on November 6, 1831, the son of Nancy and Ephraim. He had four brothers and six sisters. His family lived in Walker County, Georgia.^[1] Oliver Goad married Sarah (Winchell) Goad, marrying in Taylor County, Georgia on January 30, 1854^[2] and having seven known children together. They made their home in Scott Township, Arkansas.^[3]

Oliver Goad enlisted as a Private in the 38th Regiment of the Arkansas Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisting at Smithville on August 1, 1862.^[4]

He died on January 22, 1866, in Lawrence County, Arkansas, at the age of 34.^{[citation needed]}
