Vincent was the son of Thomas Goddard and Anne Earnley.
In 1536 he was named in the will of his father Thomas. [1] Judging by the way the will was written and the way the bequests were handled it is likely that Vincent was the eldest son.
In 1544, Vincent was named as a sub-lessee of the Manor Of Ogbourne St George. [2]
In about 1549, Vincent was contracted to marry Elizabeth Verney, daughter of Thomas Verney of Compton Verney, Warwickshire. [3]
In 1557 Vincent was mentioned in the will of Roger Blake of Calne. Roger's daughter Joan was the wife of Vincent's brother Anthony. [4]
Vincent made a nuncupative (spoken) will on 26 Oct 1594. It appears that at the time he was living in the home of Mr Edmund Pyke who had married Vincent's mother. The abstract of his will reads: Vincent Goddard of Marten, parish of Great Bedwin in the county of Wilts, dec. Being sick in the house of Mr Edmund Pyke, gent, who married the mother of the said Vincent a little before his death, did ask often for his brothers Edmund Goddard and Edmind Pyke, son of the said Edmund Pyke his father in law (step father), and being in perfect mind, made to them divers and sundry times, especially one Friday, 26 Oct 1694 his last testament or last will nuncupative, and desired the said Edmund Goddard to be good to Gabriell Pike, saying he was "his only joy" or to same effect, being then and there present John Annett, Henry Collins, Elizabeth Pyke with others. This will was probated on 14 Feb 1595/6. [5]
