Biography

William was the son of Edward Goddard and his second wife Constance Thornbaugh. William, son of Edward Goddard, was born on 1 September 1633 and baptised on 12 September 1633 in East Woodhay, Hampshire, England.[1]

He married Elizabeth, the daughter of John D'Oyley of Chislehampton, Oxfordshire. William married Elizabeth Doyly in November 1653 in St Gregory By St Paul, City of London, London, England.[2]They had one son, Edward.

William's second marriage was to Dorothy Scrope by a licence issued stating[3]

He made a third marriage to Frances Carpenter, daughter of Robert Carpenter of London. their marriage took place on 14 June 1666 at Saint Margaret Lothbury, London.[4]

Is it possible that William married a second time? I know it seems unlikely from the monumental inscription but

From Foster's London Marriage Licences p.556 https://archive.org/details/londonmarriageli00fost/page/n307/mode/2up

Goddard, William of East Woodhey, co. Southampton, gent., widower, 30, and Dorothy Scrope, spinster, 19, her parents dead, with consent of her brother-in-law, John Collins, of Wormsley, co. Oxon, gent. - at Aston, Stokenchurch, or Ipston, co. Oxon. 12 Sept 1663

Dorothy might be yet another previously unrecognised daughter of Adrian Scrope

Yes, it is certainly possible. We currently have no death date for first wife Elizabeth; so if indeed William did remarry age 30 that allows a narrowing of the timeframe to look for it. The names, dates and locations in the marriage licence all look like they fit.
