Biography

Maria was born about 1824. She may have been related to her husband, as both her maiden and married surnames were Godden.^[1]

The 1851 census lists Maria as the 26 year old wife of the head of household, James, and mother of a one year old son, Charles. Her birth year is estimated as 1825.^[2]

The 1861 census lists Maria as the 37 year old wife of the head of household, James, and mother of two sons (Charles and James), and also living with a visitor (10 year old niece Emma Hobbs from Market Lavington) at 81 New Park St. in the Parish of St. Mary in Devizes.^[3]

The 1871 census lists her as the 47 year old wife of the head of household, James, and mother of five children (Charles, James, William, Sarah, and Albert) living with them at 81 New Park St. in the Parish of St. Mary in Devizes.^[4]
