Elizabeth was born 21 May 1709 in Newport, Rhode Island British America the daughter of Captain John Godfrey and Elizabeth (Carr) Godfrey.[1] She was baptized 12 Apr 1750 in Warwick, Rhode Island by Rev. Dr. McSparran, Missionary from The Church of England.[2]
Two different extracts of Trinity Church records have her marriage date of 7 Jun 1727,[3][4] and George Sears Greene confirms that date along with the detail that their ceremony was performed by Rev. James Honeyman. He also provides the list of nine children Elizabeth bore with her husband Richard. [5]
Children:
Elizabeth, born June 17, 1728, died unmarried, March 19, 1816. Her will, dated January 31, 1S05, was proved April 4, 1816.
Elizabeth passed away on 30 Nov 1789 in Warwick and was buried in the Stone Castle Lot, Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island.[6] Her death date is visible on her grave marker as well.[7]
Research Note:
There are two records that chronicle "Elizabeth widow of Richard, Esq." death details that have the dates that those details were published NOT her actual death date.; One is in the "UNITED STATES CHRONICLE--Deaths, page 508; 10 Dec. 1789[8] and the other in PROVIDENCE GAZETTE--DEATHS, page 436; 5 Dec. 1789.[9]
