Biography

Anthony Godfrey was born 20 Feb 1771 in Horton Township, Kings Co., NS.

He married Eunice Hamilton. She was born 18 May 1777 in Horton Township, the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Davison) Hamilton.

The 1795 poll tax of Kings County lists him in Cornwallis Township.

Circa 1804, Anthony Godfrey and David Sampson Pineo bought land on the north side of the Habitant River. The deed was registered 16 August 1804.

In 1817, Anthony was living in Windsor Township, Hants Co. with a family of 8, 1 male over 50 (), 1 male 16-50 (Anthony), 3 boys (?, ?, ?), 2 women (Eunice, Sr., ?) and 1 girl (?). Seven family members were listed as Nova Scotian and a1 was listed as an American. This family may have included extended family members.

Anthony sold land to John Godfrey in 1830.

In 1861, there was a widowed male, aged 80-90, residing with Mark Rathbun in Scotch Village, Hants Co. This was probably Anthony, age 93, residing with his daughter and son-in-law.

Anthony died 5 Aug 1861 in Horton Township.

Children:

  1. poss. Camilla, b. 25 Mar 1804, m. Benjamin Wilson, d. 4 Jul 1880, bur. Old Parish Burying Ground, Windsor, Hants Co. On 28 May 1849, Camelia Wilson, 40, John Wilson, 16 and Elizabeth Stark, 50 travelled from Windsor, NS to New York aboard the brig Wathon. Benjamin died 29 May 1863 aged 71.
  2. Sarah Ann, b. ca 1812, mar. Amos Rathbun, d. 2 Apr 1880 in Horton Township, aged 68.
  3. Mary Jane, b. ca 1818, mar. [prob. 24 Feb 1850 at Walton, Hants Co.], Marcus Rathbun, s/o Amos and Mary (Faulkner) Rathbun, res. Portland, Maine in 1850, d. after 1901.
