Percy was a gourmet chef. He attended Williams College in Williamstown MA between 1889-1892. He left in his senior year to "pursue business" according to school records. He was living in St. Louis MO by 1895 where he worked as a carrier. By 1900 he was San Francisco CA working as a chef. He lived directly across from the Odd Fellows Temple in downtown. (Wife Bertha Meyer's father and mother were both well connected members of Odd Fellows/Rebecca's - I believe that is where he first would have had contact/met Bertha, when she was a child). Following the 1906 San Fran earthquake, Percy relocated to Los Angeles to continue working as a chef. He returned to San Fran by 1913 as the city was rebuilding. For work reasons he transferred back to the East Coast/NYC before 1916 while he also reconnected with Bertha. Newspaper accounts from Santa Cruz CA indicate that Bertha was travelling across country via train to marry him in NY. In 1917 he is listed as working for the American Publishing Company in NYC. Before May 1918 he and Bertha moved to Miami FL as part of the Florida Land Boom and he began work as a chef in some of the earliest resort hotels in the area. Following the bust of this boom, the family moved to Jacksonville FL where he owned/operated C&L Cafeteria between 1921-1923. By 1930 they were back in Miami where he and Bertha divorced before 1931. The oldest 3 children (Dolly, Percy Jr. and Hubert) stayed with Dad and the baby Joanne "Patsy" went with Bertha. Dolly married in 1936 to my grandfather Ancille Raymond LaRue, Sr.
