Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Pam

I've been adding names to my tree and have reached Samuel Walder who is my 4th great grandfather when I have spotted an exact match on an existing tree. It is a tree managed by Walter Joughin. However I cannot work out how I connect my Samuel up with his Samuel Walder. Just wondered whether you could help me Thank you Sarah

If you made a profile for him before you found the the other profile will need to merge yours and his to connect him. Get his ID# it will look like Walder-xxxx. Go to the page you found. Scroll down untill you see "Matches and Merges" click on "initiate a merge". Put his ID in where it says ID 2. and hit merge. The request will go to the profile manager.
