Biography

Edward Goff was an Appalachian.

Edward was born around 1804 and his parents were most likely John and Mary Goff. Mary’s maiden name has been lost to time. Although there are no actual sources for his parents the Goff-Gough Association did extensive research and John and Mary meet the standards of genealogical proof.

Edward likely moved to Kentucky sometime around the early 1820s. He married Isabella Coleman in 1823. Isabella’s place of birth is shown as Virginia. Apparently her family had moved to Kentucky before she married Edward since they were supposedly married in Pikeville, Kentucky. Prior to 1850 Pikeville was known as Piketon.

Little is known about Edward other than he somehow accumulated a lot of property in the Zebulon and Raccoon areas near Pikeville.

  • Fact: http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch Edward Goff is not the son of George and Joanna Goff. This is a mistake made in a family tree a long time ago and copied to other trees. There are many that have taken a DNA test that are confirmed related to Edward. Unfortunately he is our deadend or brick wall. The facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/224859444227945/about/ are an excellent source of information about all Goffs, but there are a few that have knowledge of Edward and the DNA testing that has been done.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Edward by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Edward:
