DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Matilda by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Matilda:
It looks like Matilda may have been the illegitimate child of Ann Goff. In 1851, Ann and Daniel Scattergood resided in Sheepshed Village at 13 Leicester Rd. Daniel was 64 and Ann was 60. According to the 1851 census, Ann was born in Long Whatton, Leicestershire and Daniel was born in Wilbarson, Northamptonshire. According to the census, Ann and Daniel were married. Whether Daniel was Matilda's father is unknown. Her father is not listed on her baptismal record and she is listed as the illegitimate daughter of Ann Goff. Matilda may have used Daniel's surname.
