Biography

Mabel was born in 1872 in Illinois, the daughter of Aaron and Ellen (Cahoon) Gold. Mabel married William H. Wallace in 1897. When Mabel died, the family was living at 1413 Linden, Long Beach, California. She died the day she gave birth to a son, Homer, on 7 December 1909 at the age of 36-37. Baby Homer died seven days later. They are buried together in Sunnyside Cemetery, Long Beach, California. ^[1]

In 1900, the Wallace family lived on Maine Street in Belview Village, Redwood, Minnesota. The household included William, 30, born September 1870 in Canada. His parents were born in Canada. William was a naturalized citizen, a banker, and rented their house; his wife Mabel G., 28, born April 1872 in Illinois. Her parents were born in Pennsylvania. William and Mabel had been married three years, and had had one child. They both could read and write; their son Donald, 2, born July 1898 in Minnesota; and Mabel’s sister, Matilda Gold, 52, single, born in Pennsylvania. Matilda could not read or write. ^[2]

In 1905, the Wallace family lived on Wyoming Street in Redwood Falls, Redwood, Minnesota. The household included William H., a banker, 34, born in Canada, as were his parents; his wife Mabel G., 33, whose parents were born in PA; and their two children, both born in Minnesota, Donald C., 7; and Helen, 3. NOTE; this Census shows Mabel’s mother’s birthplace as Illinois. That is an error. She was born in PA. ^[3]
