Heart Attack Is Fatal to Edward Gold
A heart attack suffered as he was following a horse-drawn plow near noon last Friday became fatal a short while later for Edward L. Gold, 76-year-old farmer of the Wildwood area, near Weimar.
His wife, still recovering from a recent illness, was unable to help him from the ground or remove the bridle reins from him. She had gone to look for him after he was about an hour late for lunch and found him a short distance from the house. Apparently he was on his way back to the house when the attack felled him. He was still alive when Mrs. Gold found him but died before she could obtain help several hours later.
Funeral services were held Sunday morning at Hubbard Funeral Home with Requiem High Mass at St. Michael’s Church here. Msgr. Anthony F. Drozd officiated, assisted by Rev. Maurice Buren. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gold was born Nov. 20, 1881, at High Hill in Fayette County and had lived on his farm near Weimar the past 45 years. He married Miss Theresia Janecka in 1908, and they would have observed their 50th wedding anniversary in October.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, George, of El Campo; seven daughters, Mrs. Henry (Theresia) Fisher and Mrs. Wilbur (Eleanor) Maerz of El Campo, Mrs. Clinton (Rosie) Stancik of Freslburg[sic], Mrs. Edward (Hattie) Walker of Eagle Lake, Mrs. Erwin (Tillie) Pohlmeyer and Mrs. Otto (Ida) Watts of Houston and Mrs. Clarence (Alice) Brandes of Ganado; 22 grandchildren; two brothers, August Gold of Weimar and Frank Gold of El Campo; and three sisters, Mrs. John (Tina) Gundelach of Columbus, Mrs. Henry (Annie) Niemeyer of San Antonio and Mrs. Chas. (Mary) Fritsch of Waco. A daughter, Celestine, died in 1922 at the age of 12, and a brother, Rudolph, also preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were his nephews: Walter Gold of Nada, Frank Gold Jr. of Houston, John Gundelach Jr. of Bay City, Rud. Gold Jr. of Weimar, Aug. Gold Jr. of Weimar and Ernest Niemeyer of San Antonio. Weimar Mercury, May 2, 1958, pages 1 and 8
