The heavy presence of KKK types after the Civil War and the possible interpretation of Gold as being Jewish caused some people to change the spelling. According to the Cincinnati Land Records, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. The Indiana Survey-land lying west of a meridian drawn west of the Great Miami River (known as the "Gore"). Switzerland , Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Union and Randolph Counties (all or only a part of each county)-all in Indiana. A purchaser of land did not have to pay taxes for five years-(no tax records). Land sold for .25 to .00 per acre, most was sold in 40-160 acre parcels.
