Glenn Gould was a world-renowned pianist. He was also known as a broadcaster, writer, composer, conductor, and organist.
He was born in 1932 in Toronto's Beaches neighborhood, the son of Russell Herbert Gold and Florence Emma Greig. Although they weren't Jewish, they began to spell their name "Gould" due to the anti-Semitism prevalent in pre-war Toronto.
Gould was appointed a Person of National Historic Significance in 2013.
