Isaiah Golding (a.k.a Golden) was born 01 Jun 1825, the son of Robert Golding, labourer, and Elizabeth Seaman, and baptised 2 Jun at All Saints church in Swanton Morley with Worthing[1][2][3].
In 1841 he lived with his parents Robert and Elizabeth and siblings Charlotte, Charles, Robert and Elizabeth at Green Gate, Swanton Morley[4].
In 1850 Isaiah married Hannah Wire, daughter of John Wire[5][6].
In 1851 Isaiah and Hannah lived on Swanton Road, Worthing, with their daughter (Hannah) Elizabeth. Isaiah was a journeyman felmonger (a dealer in hides or skins)[7]. In 1861 Isaiah and Hannah lived in Worthing with their children Hannah Elizabeth, William Robert, Naomi, Charles and Sarah Ann[8].
In December 1870 Isaiah received an ale-house license for the Tanner Arms in Worthing[9].
In 1871 they lived at Near Street in Worthing with children Robert, Charles, Sarah, John, Alice, Charlotte and Rosanna[10]. By this time Isaiah was a felmonger and innkeeper.
In Aug 1876 Isaiah was charged with "opening his licensed premises for the sale of intoxicating liquor before half-past twelve at noon on Sunday". He had opened at 12:05. He was fined £1 and 12s, and his license was endorsed[11].
In 1878 Isaiah's rent was £12. The Tanners Arms included a tap room, parlour, cellar and store room, club room and kitchen, plus 4 bedrooms, and a store and coal house in the rear[12].
In 1881 Isaiah lived at the Tanners Arms in Worthing with his children Sarah, John and Rosa. Isaiah was the innkeeper[15]. Later in 1881, on 12 Oct, he married Harriet Beevor, aged 42, daughter of John Beevor[16][17][18].
In 1891 Isaiah lived at the Tanners Arms still, with his new wife, grandson Ernest Golden and a lodger, Peter Jolly[19].
He passed away in 1892 (as Isaiah Golden) and was buried at St Margaret in Worthing on 5 Nov[20][21].
