Biography

George, also known as "Bud", was born in 1921[1], the son of Charles Golder and Mary Blue. He grew up on a farm in West Milton, PA, and then in Shamokin where his father worked for the Reading Railroad. George dropped out of high school and went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps in what is now R. B. Winter State Park in Bald Eagle State Forest. He enlisted in the US Army. He married Helen E. Barber in 1943. He died in 1991 when he had a stroke while driving to his dauther's house in Mazeppa, Union County, Pennsylvania.

George was born 24 March 1921 in Kelly Township, Union County, Pennsylvania.[2]

Military

George enlisted in the Army in 1941.[5] He served in the Army during WWII in the 109th Infantry, and became a riflery instructor. In 1944 he landed at Normandy embedded with the 101st Airborne, helped secure St. Lo, and was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. Only George and 1 other member of his unit survived. They were both held by the Germans as POWs for 13 weeks and escaped on the march to a prison camp. He also served in the Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict.[6]

Spouse and Children

George married Helen E. Barber on 5 September 1943 in Milton, PA. He was the father of 5 children, 4 of whom are still living. He lived in Northumberland or Union County, PA, his entire life, with the exception of time spent in the military. [7]

Death and Burial

George passed away in 1991 in Mazeppa, Union Co., PA[1].[2] He was buried at White Deer Cemetery, Union County, PA, beside his wife.[8]

There is a category error in your WWII template. Please ensure that the branch= is United States Army. The unit=should be 109th Infantry Regiment.

Please add the instructor, amphibious tank battalion into the units= parameter.
