Biography

Elizabeth Goldsborough was born in 1652 in the Essex village of Chipping Ongar. eldest child of the lord of the manor. Her father died when she was 11 and her mother took responsibility until she married at age 32 (her younger sister Ann did not marry until age 53).

In 1683 she married Richard Turner, a barrister from a Kent gentry family, and they lived at Chipping Ongar.[1][2][3] Their first five children, all of whom died in infancy and were buried at Chipping Ongar, were Elizabeth I, Boyle, Henry, Anne, and Richard. Their last two children, Dorothy and Elizabeth II, lived to marry and in the case of Elizabeth to give her grandchildren.

Her husband died in 1725,[4] and she lived until 1737 when, at the age of 84, she was buried at Chipping Ongar.[5][6][7]
